Group Health Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic – July 12-13th 2008

On July 12, 2008, the directors of BrooksBooth Youth Development  participated in the 29th annual Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic in an effort to raise money for the organization.

The STP course route started in Seattle (Husky Stadium) and traveled approximately 202 miles to Portland. Many members of the BrooksBooth team completed the ride in one day, while some enjoyed the journey and completed it in two. Your pledges and donations helped BBYD raise over $8,000!! Thank you for all of your support in helping Justin Brooks, Jason Booth, and the entire BrooksBooth Cycling Team make their fundraising efforts a success!

Highlights:
- Jerseys looked great and were noticed by many other riders
- Great BBYD support crew along the course
- Team member Greg King fought tough conditions to finish with riding partner Greg Lambert
- Volunteer BBYD rest stop at mile 50
- 6 first time riders in the team
- BBYD encouragement shown along the course
- Sunday evening post ride team/family dinner

Thanks again to all of the team members, family members, volunteers and donors!

2007 Events

Group Health Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic July 14, 2007

This year's STP was a great success! Seven BB Cycling Team members rode in the event; four of them finishing in one day. This was the first STP for four of those riders. Congratulations to all the finishers! Along with the riders, there was great support from family members and friends along the way. The weather this year was amazing, and the crowds came out. The ride sold out early this year, and the Group Health web page put the total number of riders at 9,000. For more information on the STP, please click on the link to the left. Photos from the ride are available in the photo gallery section of our website.

2007 Summary

2007 was a great year for BrooksBooth Youth Development. We took big strides forward, building on the groundwork that was laid last year. This year the first annual BrooksBooth Cycling Jersey was unveiled; multiple riders joined us in riding in the STP; new donor relationships were developed; corporate sponsors came aboard; and we raised just over $5,000 dollars. As the year drew to a close, the initial applications for the first scholarship were starting to arrive in the mailbox! 2008 should be even better than 2007, and thanks again for all of your support and generosity!!

2006 Events

Peninsula Tour de Cure – May 21st, 2006

Before we embark on our own fundraising events, we thought we would raise money for a cause that has directly affected our own family and friends. The BBYD Cycling Team successfully raised $750 for the American Diabetes Association. The event, the Peninsula Tour de Cure, was a 78.7-mile bike ride through the Redwood peninsula in and around Palo Alto, CA. The team finished in the middle of the pack and the rainy hilly bike ride took slightly over 7 ˝ hours. Overall, it was a great success for both the BBYD Cycling Team as well as the American Diabetes Association that raised over $300,000 in this particular event alone. 2006 Summary

For the year 2006, BBYD received just over $3,000 in contributions throughout the year! Cycling Team participation in events such as the Group Health Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic and the Tour de Cure significantly helped BBYD with these accomplishments. We would like to say thank you to all that helped BBYD in 2006 and hope to see the same familiar faces and with many new ones in 2007!

Things to watch out for: Next year’s STP! Also, the first annual BBYD Golf Classic. If anyone is interested in participating in either of these, please don’t hesitate to contact us at either justinbrooks@bbyd.org or jasonmbooth@bbyd.org.
